Are you in the 9 out of 10 club?

Are you a member of the "9 out of 10 is sure to get me in club?" This club is Satan's most successful trick, the premise behind is that if I am a good person then I will go to Heaven. On the surface it seems logical enough, if I just do more good things than I do bad then a fair God would surely send me to Heaven when I die. Wrong! being good or bad in and of itself has no bearing on your eternal destiny. Jesus said that many of those expecting to enter Heaven are in for a big shock, he will tell them "I never knew you, depart from me, you evildoers" (Matthew 7:23). What Jesus is saying is that a majority of people seem to have a misconception about their eternal destiny with the Father and they are in for a very sobering wake up call when they pass from this world.

Most "good" people would claim that they don't routinely break almost all (9 out of 10) of the commandments. The problem is that they do not keep what Jesus said was the most important commandment "You shall love God the Father with all your heart and with all your soul and all your strength, and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:36-38). If you really kept just this one commandment you could probably break all of the rest and still make it to Heaven. On the other hand if you keep all of the rest but do not keep just this one then you probably will not make it into Heaven. Satan's biggest trick on humanity is to confuse the criteria required to receive eternal life. He says, "just be good and you will deserve to go to Heaven", how good is good enough and who is the judge?
